| Film Spring Open – workshops for young artists |
The Film Spring initiative is an international undertaking under the auspices of a known camera operator, Sławomir Idziak. Its purpose is to provide a group of filmmakers from various parts of the world with an opportunity to make a 40-minute film. The workshops are for young artists (directors, film operators, editors, musicians) who put their ideas into effect working as a team. Annual meetings are held as workshops in autumn in Poland, in the Hel Peninsula. The team coming to this place is involved in the shooting and editing stages of the film, its screenplay is usually written earlier (on the Internet). Leading parts are played by young actors who are selected through the Film Spring Agency website www.filmspringagency.com.
"Film Spring" is to serve a purpose of building a European community of filmmakers. The Internet is a tool, also a consultation and preparation platform for international productions of feature films (www.filmspringopen.eu).
With an interest in the program growing year by year and with a limited room the organizers have been recently inviting all those who are interested in establishing contacts with young European filmmakers to Jurata to participate in an "open" event accompanied by workshops. This year FilmSpringOpen Festival will take place between 05 and 25 October. The organizers have suggested a "Filmspringers in love" theme for the films to be made this year.
This extraordinary festival is held with an idea of accelerating the film production as the time between the idea of the film and its production has tended to get longer. Owing to the initiative of "Film Spring Open" young artists go through all stages of filmmaking and have their influence on all processes giving the film its final form. Owing to some other "Film Spring Open"- related initiatives, i.e. "Film Spring Agency" and "Film Spring Editing", it is possible to organize on-line casting sessions as well as the material editing and evaluating scene by scene.
Such a formula significantly accelerates film work. Following three-week' workshops young artists have their version of the film with first editing already done.
