Traffic regulations

Basic traffic rules

  • Poland has the right side traffic

  • Permitted speed is:

In the built-up area:

- 60 km/h from 23:00 to 5:00
- 50 km/h from 5:00 to 23:00

Outside the built-up area:

a) limitations for motor vehicles, motorbikes and trucks up to 3,5 tons

- 130 km/h in highways
- 110 km/h in expressways
- 90 km/h in other roads outside the built-up area


b) limitations for a group of vehicles or other vehicles:

80 km/h in highways, expressways and dual carriageways with at least two lanes in each direction

70 km/h in other roads.

  • Permitted blood alcohol content is: 0,2 per mil.

  • Dipped headlights must be used all year long.

  • It is absolutely required that seatbelts are worn by both front seat and back seat passengers. It is prohibited to use hand-held mobiles while driving.

  • Children under 12 should sit in special child seats installed in the back seat.

  • Each vehicle must be equipped with a fire extinguisher, first aid kit and a hazard warning reflective triangle.

  • The vehicle should be marked with the symbol of the country where registered (in the license plate or with a sticker on the rear window)
